THE CREW

Captain Kevin Warning

Throughout the years I’ve been a fishing guide in Alaska, the question most people ask is “how did I get here”.  Looking back, it was inevitable.  In 2001, I was a 17-year-old kid whose grandfather’s health was failing.  He was an avid fisherman and my dad and I decided that a fishing trip in Alaska with him would be a great Father’s Day trip.  A friend of the family-owned a fishing lodge in Southeast Alaska, so off we went.  It was a great trip.  After I graduated high school the owner offered me a job as a dockhand.  I immediately jumped at the offer.  As a dockhand, I learned so much about Alaska, fishing, and how a fishing lodge functions.  But what I enjoyed more was being out on the water enjoying the scenery, the wildlife, and catching fish.  That Fall I obtained my Coast Guard license and the owner of the lodge hired me as a fishing guide.  I’ve been a charter fishing captain every season since.

I discovered how much I enjoyed sharing my enthusiasm with both experienced and novice guests.  I came to look forward to their excitement when someone yelled “fish on” even more than catching my own trophy fish and dreamed of building my own lodge.  I completed business classes at college including a class on entrepreneurship which required creating a business plan.  In my case, it wasn’t a fictional business and I discovered my dream was feasible!  Together with my father-in-law, Lance Clark, and help from family and friends, my dream, Khaz Bay Lodge, has become a reality.
